Chennai, March 10 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned Vijay, the actor-turned-politician and leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), to appear in New Delhi on March 15 regarding the Karur stampede case, which resulted in the loss of 41 lives during a political event last year.

TVK's Joint General Secretary C.T.R. Nirmalkumar confirmed the CBI's request, stating that Vijay has been officially asked to attend questioning in the national capital.

This summons is part of the ongoing investigation into the devastating stampede that took place on September 27, 2025, during a major rally led by Vijay in Karur, Tamil Nadu.

The incident resulted in 41 fatalities and over 60 injuries, sparking significant criticism and demands for accountability regarding crowd management during the political gathering.

Party insiders revealed that Vijay was previously scheduled to meet with CBI officials on March 10.

However, the TVK leadership requested a 15-day postponement due to prior commitments.

Furthermore, the party urged the agency to allow Vijay's statement to be recorded in Chennai rather than requiring travel to New Delhi.

This marks the third time Vijay has been summoned by the CBI in connection with the Karur stampede investigation.

He had previously appeared before investigators on January 12 and January 19 this year, where he was questioned about the planning and arrangements for the public rally that led to the tragic stampede.

In addition, the CBI has also called V. Senthilbalaji, a DMK legislator from Karur and former Minister of Tamil Nadu, to appear for questioning on March 17.

Senthilbalaji stated in a message on social media platform X that he would fully cooperate with the investigation and attend the scheduled appointment.

The CBI is actively conducting a thorough investigation into this incident, which has been transferred to them from a Special Investigation Team (SIT) following a directive from the Supreme Court.

Investigators are scrutinizing the events leading up to the stampede, including crowd control protocols, event authorizations, and the responsibilities of organizers and local officials.

Authorities have indicated that the central agency is diligently gathering evidence and testimonies from key witnesses to ascertain accountability for one of the most severe crowd disasters in Tamil Nadu's political history.

Point of View

The focus remains on ensuring safety and responsibility in future gatherings.
