Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar Engages with Monks at Belur Math
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Kolkata, March 10 (NationPress) Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar stepped out of his usual bureaucratic demeanor on Tuesday morning as he engaged with the monks at Belur Math, located in Howrah. This site serves as the global headquarters for the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, both established by Swami Vivekananda.
Beginning his day early, Kumar visited Belur Math to soak in the spiritual essence of the location. He was seen enjoying a light-hearted exchange with the monks from this revered institution.
Inspired by the teachings of India's spiritual leader, Shri Ramakrishna Paramhansa, and under the guidance of his wife and spiritual partner, Sarada Devi, Swamiji founded Belur Math, proclaiming, “The unblemished rays here will illuminate the entire world and transform human thought.”
Since its inception, Belur Math and its monks have remained committed to Swamiji’s principle that 'serving humanity is akin to serving God.'
Following his visit to Belur Math, the CEC proceeded to the nearby Kali Temple at Dakshineswar, renowned for its associations with Shri Ramakrishna, Sarada Devi, Swamiji, and the temple's benefactor, the esteemed philanthropist Rani Rashmoni.
It is widely acknowledged among devotees that Swamiji received his 'Brahmagyan'—spiritual enlightenment aimed at dedicating one’s life to human service—at this temple. Followers believe that the bond between Goddess Kali and Shri Ramakrishna was one of maternal warmth rather than a conventional priestly relationship.
On the previous day, Kumar had visited another prominent Kali Temple at Kalighat in South Kolkata, near the home of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, where he faced protests from Trinamool Congress activists holding black flags and “go back” posters.
Later on Tuesday, the CEC and other members of the Election Commission of India’s full bench are set to convene a significant meeting with senior bureaucrats and police officials from the state government, including Chief Secretary Nandini Chakraborty and the state’s acting Director General of Police Peeyush Pandey, starting around 10 A.M.
This will be followed by a press conference led by the CEC. The full bench of the Commission is expected to return to Delhi later in the day.
