Government Allocates Over Rs 275 Crore for Jharkhand's Rural Governance Enhancement

New Delhi, February 27 (NationPress) - The Central Government announced on Friday that it has allocated Rs 275.1253 crore to enhance the functioning of Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and rural local bodies (RLBs) in Jharkhand as part of the 15th Finance Commission grants for the financial year 2025–26.
This funding represents the second tranche of Untied Grants for FY 2024–25, and it will provide support to all qualified 24 District Panchayats (DPs), 253 Block Panchayats (BPs), and 4,342 Gram Panchayats (GPs) across the state.
The Ministry of Panchayati Raj has indicated that the XV-FC grants are intended to assist states in strengthening their rural governance structures. These grants are typically distributed in two installments within a fiscal year.
The Untied Grants are earmarked for addressing specific local needs, excluding expenses related to salaries and other operational costs.
In contrast, the Tied Grants must be used for essential services, including sanitation and maintaining open defecation-free (ODF) status, as well as for initiatives like providing drinking water, rainwater harvesting, and recycling water.
Earlier this month, the Central Government also disclosed an allocation of over Rs 137 crore to fortify rural local bodies in Goa, Meghalaya, Sikkim, and Uttarakhand for the fiscal year 2025-26.
Furthermore, the Union Government has revealed a total of over Rs 3,324 crore to support rural local bodies in states such as Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, and West Bengal as part of the second installment of the 15th Finance Commission's untied grants.
Bihar has been allocated Rs 802.40 crore, benefiting all 38 district panchayats, 533 block panchayats, and 8,053 gram panchayats, along with an additional Rs 1.39 crore from the earlier withheld funds that have now been released.
Similarly, Uttar Pradesh received Rs 1,559.40 crore, encompassing all 75 district panchayats, 826 block panchayats, and 57,694 gram panchayats, in addition to Rs 11.016 crore from the previously withheld portion that is now eligible for distribution.
West Bengal has also been granted Rs 680.86 crore for its eligible 21 district panchayats, 335 block panchayats, and 3,225 gram panchayats under the same installment.
