Govt Allocates Over Rs 1,500 Crore to Enhance Rural Governance in Six States

New Delhi, March 31 (NationPress) The government announced on Tuesday the disbursement of over Rs 1,500 crore as part of the 15th Finance Commission grants aimed at enhancing rural local governance across six states.
The Centre has allocated both tied and untied grants for the fiscal year 2025–26 to support Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs) and Rural Local Bodies (RLBs) in Telangana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Mizoram, and Meghalaya, thereby empowering grassroots governance and facilitating local development based on community needs.
In Telangana, the first installment of untied grants for the financial year 2025-26 amounts to Rs 247.94 crore, benefiting approximately 12,600 Gram Panchayats (GPs) in the state.
For Uttarakhand, Rs 91.31 crore has been released as the second installment of untied grants for the financial year 2025-26, which will benefit all 13 District Panchayats (DPs), 95 Block Panchayats (BPs), and 7,784 eligible GPs.
Additionally, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj reported that Rs 1.84 crore from the withheld portion of the first installment of untied grants for FY 2025-26 has been released to cover an extra 216 GPs.
Rajasthan will receive approximately Rs 315.61 crore as the second installment of untied grants for the financial year 2025-2026, which will support all 33 DPs, 352 BPs, and 3,857 eligible GPs.
Furthermore, Rs 12.57 crore from the withheld portion of the first installment of untied grants for FY 2025-26 has been allocated to an additional 9 Zilla Panchayats and 13 BPs.
Meghalaya has been granted Rs 27 crore as the second installment of untied grants for the financial year 2021-22, benefiting all 3 eligible Autonomous District Councils: Khasi, Garo, and Jaintia.
Moreover, the Union Government has sanctioned a second installment of tied grants to Meghalaya amounting to Rs 22.20 crore, which is meant for all 816 eligible Village Councils, including those in Autonomous District Council areas.
In Maharashtra, the Centre has released Rs 109.06 crore each as the withheld portions of the first and second installments of tied grants, which will benefit an additional 12 DPs and 125 BPs.
Moreover, Maharashtra has received Rs 116.97 crore as the withheld portion of the first installment for FY 2024–25, covering an extra 12 DPs, 125 BPs, and 27 GPs.
“In addition, Rs 329.21 crore has been released as the withheld portion of the second installment of Tied Grants for FY 2024–25, benefitting an additional 12 DPs, 125 BPs, and 5,249 GPs. Furthermore, Rs 72.70 crore has been released as the withheld portions of the first and second installments of XV FC Untied Grants for FY 2025–26, aiding the same set of 12 DPs and 125 BPs,” informed the ministry.
