This workshop aims to enhance the Centre–State coordination in areas such as flood forecasting, preparedness, and management planning by sharing the CWC’s existing services along with new initiatives while gathering valuable feedback from stakeholders. The goal is to encourage the effective use of CWC’s forecasting and decision-support services by state governments, backed by various central agencies.

Representatives from flood-prone states will have the chance to discuss their own initiatives in flood forecasting and explore potential synergies with CWC services.

The sessions in the morning will delve into the CWC’s flood forecasting capabilities, which include short-range forecasts, seven-day advisory forecasts, inundation forecasting, integrated reservoir operation support, GLOF monitoring, and novel initiatives such as AI/ML applications and the utilization of extended-range rainfall forecasts from the IMD along with flash flood forecasting. State governments will also share their experiences and initiatives in conjunction with the CWC.

The afternoon will focus on guidelines for the preparation, submission, and evaluation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) related to flood management and anti-erosion measures, emphasizing quality improvements and timely appraisals. Feedback from the states will aid in refining the guidelines.
