Chairman as the Main Disruptor: Congress and INDIA Bloc Criticize No-Trust Motion Against Vice-President

New Delhi, Dec 11 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, along with leaders from the INDIA bloc, conducted a vigorous assault on chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Wednesday, attributing the ongoing stalling and disruption of the House to his ‘headmaster-type attitude’ and his perception of ‘Parliament as a school.’
During a joint press conference organized by Congress and its allies, Kharge leveled serious allegations against Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar, stating, ‘The primary disruptor of the House is the chairman himself.’
He accused the Rajya Sabha chairman of exhibiting partisan behavior and, at times, acting as a spokesperson for the ruling party.
“He is the one who creates disruptions. He preaches to the Opposition members but never attempts to quell chaos from the treasury benches. His behavior has tarnished the integrity and dignity of the House and the nation,” Kharge informed reporters.
He also mentioned that the decision to initiate a no-trust motion against the Vice-President was driven by necessity rather than choice.
“We had no alternative but to proceed with this notice. For three years, he has engaged in partisan behavior. He has granted extensive time to the treasury benches while denying the Opposition the opportunity to express their perspectives and has even resorted to lecturing the Opposition leaders like a headmaster,” Kharge stated, directly targeting Dhankhar.
He further noted that the Vice-President consistently seizes opportunities to belittle senior and more experienced members of the Opposition, sometimes even outdoing the spokespersons of the ruling party.
“In the most challenging period of our history, we have a Vice-President who publicly criticizes Opposition parties and behaves like a spokesperson for the ruling party, not only within the House but also outside,” he elaborated.
Kharge went on to advise the Rajya Sabha chairman, suggesting he should act as a custodian of the House and a defender of the Opposition members.
“He should transcend politics and listen to the voices of all parties and leaders. His management of the House over the past three days was especially concerning, marked by evident partisanship and a complete lack of fairness,” Kharge stated.
“He dismisses all notices from the Opposition yet permits those from the ruling party. When we attempt to speak, he does not allow us to complete a single sentence. When I stand to speak, he restricts us to under two minutes. This is not merely a violation of protocol but a betrayal of the Constitution and the people of India,” he justified the rationale behind moving a no-trust motion against Dhankhar.
In addition to Kharge, numerous leaders from the INDIA bloc, including RJD’s Manoj Jha and Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Raut, launched criticisms against the Vice-President, claiming there was a coordinated and systematic targeting of the Opposition, seemingly at the direction of the Centre.
Justifying the no-trust notice, the first of its kind in history, they asserted that it was brought forth not due to personal animosity but out of political necessity, aiming solely to preserve the dignity and integrity of Parliament.
Earlier in the day, both Houses of Parliament experienced tumultuous scenes related to the no-trust notice against Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar and the George Soros issue.
