Kurukshetra, Aug 8 (NationPress) Farmer leader Gurnam Singh Charuni has vehemently criticized US President Donald Trump’s decision to impose a 50 per cent tariff on Indian goods, labeling it as deeply objectionable and unacceptable.
In an interview with IANS on Friday, Charuni commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his decisive stance in support of Indian farmers.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s statements made during a recent event in Delhi, Charuni noted that PM Modi’s remarks were a bold and necessary assurance for farmers.
At the event, PM Modi emphasized, “For us, the interests of our farmers come first. India will never compromise on the rights of its farmers, livestock rearers, or fishermen. I understand that this may come at a personal cost, but I am ready for it. India is prepared today - for its farmers, fishermen, and livestock rearers. We are continuously striving to enhance farmers' income, lower input costs, and open up new avenues of earning.”
Charuni stated that the Prime Minister’s stance warrants appreciation and full backing. “We believe PM Modi should take an even firmer position against the US to send a clear message to Trump - India will not submit. We stand with the Prime Minister in any decision he makes regarding this issue,” he remarked.
The farmer leader also called upon the public, urging Indians to come together and boycott American products in response to the tariff decision. “Only then will the US receive the message it needs,” he concluded.
It is important to note that since the commencement of trade discussions, the US has been pressuring India to open its agriculture and dairy sectors. India has firmly refused to compromise on this issue. PM Modi’s recent comments have garnered widespread support from farmer communities nationwide.
