Kolkata, Sep 19 (NationPress) The former Minister of Education in West Bengal and Trinamool Congress Secretary General, Partha Chatterjee, was implicated in irregularities concerning school job appointments by the West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) even prior to his official role, revealed Chattaranjan Mondal, the former Chairman of the commission, during a special CBI court session on Friday.
The trial process regarding the alleged multi-crore WBSSC recruitment scandal commenced at the special court with the testimonies of several witnesses outlined in the chargesheet and supplementary documents provided by the CBI.
On this day, Mondal took the stand as the initial witness, making this significant declaration in court. He served as the WBSSC Chairman from June 2011 to October 2013, a period during which Chatterjee was not the Education Minister but held the position of Commerce & Industries Minister.
During this time, the current Education Minister, Bratya Basu, was in charge. Mondal mentioned that although he was appointed as WBSSC Chairman in 2011 for a four-year term, he chose to resign voluntarily after two and a half years, as he did not wish to yield to the pressure for irregular appointments from Chatterjee and also from the then Trinamool General Secretary and Rajya Sabha member, Mukul Roy.
Nevertheless, Mondal affirmed that Basu had never exerted any unethical pressure on him during his tenure at the WBSSC.
Subsequently, Chatterjee’s attorney inquired whether Mondal had been part of any political party’s manifesto committee at a later date. In response, Mondal stated that he joined the BJP before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and became a member of the party’s manifesto committee for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
However, he denied having provided any statements to the CBI regarding the school job case during his time or as a BJP member, asserting that there was no pressure, either direct or indirect, to provide any statements concerning the matter.
The witness statement recording process will resume on Saturday and continue into Monday. Following this, the arguments and counter-arguments from the respective legal representatives will commence.
