Kolkata, Aug 13 (NationPress) A significant hearing regarding the bail petition submitted by Partha Chatterjee, the former education minister of West Bengal and previous secretary general of the Trinamool Congress, has been delayed. This petition pertains to the extensive school job scam that has shaken West Bengal. The case was scheduled for discussion at a single-judge bench presided over by Justice Suvra Ghosh on Wednesday.
Before the proceedings could commence, the attorney representing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) requested additional time to prepare their arguments. The bench granted this request, resulting in the postponement of the hearing, which is now set to reconvene on September 1.
Chatterjee's initial arrest took place in July 2022 by officials from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) concerning the extensive school job scam. Subsequently, the CBI, conducting its own investigation, also placed him under arrest for multiple offenses linked to the scandal.
Despite being granted bail in most of the ED's cases against him, he remains incarcerated as the CBI charges have not yet allowed for bail.
Earlier this month, the ED filed a chargesheet against another minister in the Bengal government, Chandranath Sinha, who is responsible for micro, small, and medium enterprises and the textiles department, regarding the same job scam.
Sinha now stands as the second minister in the West Bengal administration to face a chargesheet from the ED related to this case, following Chatterjee. The chargesheet against Sinha revealed dubious transactions amounting to Rs 1.5 crore across two of his bank accounts during the high-activity period of the school-job scandal from 2026 to 2021.
