Bhopal, Jan 21 (NationPress) An RTI activist, Ashish Chaturvedi, recognized as a whistleblower in the Vyapam Scam, has been charged for reportedly mistreating and verbally assaulting Special Armed Force (SAF) personnel assigned to protect him.
As per official reports, this action followed a complaint from a SAF jawan, who claimed that Chaturvedi pressured them into performing personal household duties, threatening them with abuse if they declined.
The incident occurred in Chandrabadni, within the jurisdiction of the Jhansi Road police station, where several SAF personnel were stationed for Chaturvedi’s protection.
Chaturvedi, who resides in Jhansi, has been granted security based on the directives from the Madhya Pradesh High Court in 2022.
Reports state that Ramu Singh Kushwaha, one of the three SAF personnel, initially notified his superiors about the situation and subsequently filed a complaint at the local police station on Monday.
Kushwaha, affiliated with the 13th battalion of SAF and hailing from Bhind, accused Chaturvedi of issuing death threats to him and other security staff should they fail to comply with his instructions.
Alongside Kushwaha, Assistant Sub-Inspector Sarvesh Singh, Constable Nandkishore Bohra, and Yogendra Singh were also assigned to Chaturvedi's security detail.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Dharamvir Singh confirmed that the RTI activist, Ashish Chaturvedi, was under police protection from the Jhansi Road police station.
Security personnel have reported that Chaturvedi has been persistently harassing them and has issued threats against their lives.
“Following an investigation, a case has been filed under Sections 353, 506, and 294 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Security personnel have provided an audio recording as evidence. Further inquiries are ongoing,” he stated.
The extensive Vyapam Scam, which unveiled a widespread cheating operation within the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB), came to light in 2013.
