Chennai, May 18 (NationPress) The Greater Chennai Police Commissioner, A. This caution follows an incident where a businessman from the city was robbed by individuals he encountered through the app.
The robbery was brought to light after authorities apprehended three repeat offenders and a minor who were involved in the crime at the victim's home located in MKB Nagar.
The victim, who operates a garment business, had invited a man he met on Grindr to his residence on May 14 while his parents were out of town.
Unbeknownst to him, the visitor was accompanied by two others—a male accomplice and a 17-year-old girl.
According to the police report, the situation escalated quickly.
The trio threatened the businessman with a knife, restrained him, and confined him within the bathroom.
They proceeded to steal 30 sovereigns of gold jewelry and 2.5 kg of silver before fleeing the scene in an autorickshaw.
Once he managed to escape, the victim notified the MKB Nagar Police.
A preliminary investigation and review of CCTV footage validated the suspects' entry and rapid exit from the area.
In response to this evidence, specialized police teams initiated a manhunt.
On Saturday, the police arrested R. Jayanthinathan (34), a known criminal; his wife Esther; and another criminal M. Iyappan (34).
Additionally, a 17-year-old girl involved in the robbery was also taken into custody.
Authorities recovered 181 grams of gold and 1 kg of silver from the suspects.
Investigations indicated that Jayanthinathan had previously visited the victim's home a week prior and, upon noticing the valuables, had plotted the robbery with his accomplices.
Commissioner Arun emphasized that the Chennai Police had previously warned the public about the Grindr app, especially after investigations into synthetic drug networks revealed its use in facilitating connections between suppliers and customers.
He urged the public to be vigilant while using such platforms to avoid becoming victims of criminal activities.
