Chennai Police Recover 30 Machetes from BSP Leader Armstrong's Murder Suspect Nagendran's Home

Chennai, Jan 8 (NationPress) The Greater Chennai Police have successfully recovered 30 machetes from the domicile of gangster P. Nagendran, who is presently serving a life term at Vellore Central Prison.

Nagendran is the main suspect in the killing of K. Armstrong, the president of the BSP in Tamil Nadu. His son, Ashwathaman, is the third suspect implicated in this case.

As per police reports, a raid was executed at Nagendran's residence on Wednesday, resulting in the seizure of numerous lethal weapons, including the machetes.

This latest seizure has escalated the total count of machetes retrieved during the investigation into Armstrong's murder to 51.

K. Armstrong was horrifically murdered on July 5, 2024, near his under-construction residence in Perambur.

A gang of eight individuals, spearheaded by Ponnai Balu — the sibling of the deceased gangster Arcot Suresh — admitted to the crime and surrendered to the police later that evening.

Balu confessed that the murder was a retaliatory act for the killing of his brother, which he claimed was orchestrated by Armstrong.

However, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by Chennai City Police Commissioner M. Arun disclosed that three distinct gangs had conspired to execute the murder. Ultimately, Armstrong was slain by Balu and his associates.

Further inquiries unveiled that P. Nagendran, who has spent 26 years in jail, along with another gangster, Sambhav Senthil, had plotted and funded the murder.

The police indicated that Nagendran had a personal vendetta against Armstrong, accusing him of hindering the political aspirations of his son, Ashwathaman, who is a lawyer and a former office-bearer of the Tamil Nadu Youth Congress.

Ashwathaman, the third suspect in the case, has been expelled from the Congress party.

Meanwhile, Sambhav Senthil reportedly had conflicts with Armstrong regarding real estate transactions.

A total of 28 individuals have been apprehended in connection with this case. However, Sambhav Senthil and two of his close associates, Krishna Kumar and Appu, are still evading capture.

Senthil is categorized as an ‘A+ history-sheeter’ at the Washermenpet police station for his involvement in multiple homicide cases and has been on the run since the incident.

This case has also implicated individuals from various political factions, including the AIADMK, Tamil Maanila Congress, BJP, and Congress. The police have submitted a detailed 5,000-page charge sheet to the magistrate court.
