Chennai, Jan 23 (NationPress) As the nation prepares for the Republic Day festivities on Sunday, the Greater Chennai Police have markedly bolstered security measures throughout the city and its neighboring regions.

Significant areas, such as Marina and the routes taken by the Governor from Raj Bhavan to Marina, along with the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's path from Chittaranjan Salai to Marina, have been designated as “Red Zones.”

The operation of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS), drones, or any other aerial devices is prohibited in Chennai on January 25 and 26, with the exception of government-approved activities.

The 76th Republic Day celebration is set to occur near the Labour Statue on Kamarajar Salai, Marina, Chennai.

According to standing orders, the police have already banned the use of drones, remote-controlled microlight aircraft, and paragliding under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023.

The Coastal Security Group (CSG) of the Tamil Nadu Marine Police has ramped up patrolling recently. Security has been enhanced in both coastal regions and mid-sea, in light of intelligence reports regarding potential smuggling of weapons, narcotics, and other illegal goods via the ocean.

The marine police are actively searching uninhabited islands in the Gulf of Mannar and inspecting fishing vessels operating in deep-sea and coastal zones.

Numerous police units will be dispatched to ensure security in all district capitals of Tamil Nadu and in the state capital, Chennai, starting on January 24.

Security agencies are taking every precaution to facilitate the seamless execution of this grand occasion.

Recent tensions between the Governor and the DMK government, with the Governor adopting certain controversial stances regarding Tamil Nadu, have raised alarms among intelligence organizations.

Reports indicate that certain ultra-Tamil groups may attempt to disrupt the celebrations. To counter these potential threats, both state and central intelligence agencies have recommended heightened security protocols.

Sources have confirmed that adequate arrangements will be established to protect the Republic Day events.
