Raipur, March 3 (NationPress) In a move to provide some relief to the public, the Chhattisgarh government has reduced the Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol by Rs 1 per litre. This announcement was made by State Finance Minister O.P. Choudhary during the presentation of the state’s Budget 2025-26 in the Assembly on Monday.
The reduction in petrol prices will take effect from April in the state.
The Finance Minister also revealed the establishment of 3200 Bastar fighters posts, aimed at combating Maoists in the region.
In addition, it was announced that for the first time, provisions have been made in the budget for the procurement of pulses and oil seeds under the PSS Scheme of the Government of India.
The Minister expressed his government’s commitment to supporting tribal art and craft by creating a dedicated platform in Chhattisgarh, alongside the establishment of a National Institute of Fashion Technology in the state.
To address sickle cell anemia, the Minister announced the creation of a Sickle Cell Screening Centre in every block of Chhattisgarh in the initial phase.
The river linking project will also progress, with plans to survey the interlinking of the Mahanadi - Indravati and Sikasar - Kodar rivers.
Among other popular decisions, the Finance Minister announced the development of a Medi City and an Education City in Nava Raipur.
In his nearly two-hour speech, the Finance Minister introduced 11 new schemes including: Mukhyamantri Nagarotthan Yojana, Mukhyamantri Mobile Tower Scheme, Mukhyamantri Parivahan Yojana, Mukhyamantri Bypass and Ringroad Nirman Yojana, Mukhyamantri Griha Pravesh Samman Yojna, Mukhyamantri Governance Fellowship, Siyan Care Yojana (Free Body Checkup Government Scheme), PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme, Atal Sinchai Yojana, implementation of SSIP (Student Startup and Innovation Policy), and Student Skilling Program along with Financial Investment Planning Training with the National Stock Exchange (NSE).
