New Delhi, Sep 20 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh, Vishnu Deo Sai, expressed a strong condemnation on Saturday regarding the attack targeting personnel of the Assam Rifles in Manipur.
During an assault by unidentified armed individuals on Friday evening, at least two members of the Assam Rifles, including a Naib-Subedar, lost their lives, and five others sustained injuries when their vehicle was attacked in the Bishnupur district.
On the social media platform X, he stated, "The attack against the Assam Rifles in Manipur is utterly unacceptable. Rifleman G.D. Kashaw, a valiant son of Chhattisgarh, along with two other soldiers, made the ultimate sacrifice."
"I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyrs and acknowledge their sacrifice, which fortifies our commitment to safeguard and unite our nation," he further added.
A police official in Imphal reported that the event occurred along the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway (NH-2) in the Nambol Sabal Leikai region.
A defense spokesperson indicated that a unit from the 33 Assam Rifles was transitioning from its Patsoi Company Operating Base to the Nambol Company Operating Base when it was ambushed by unidentified militants on the highway within the denotified area of Manipur. Tragically, two Assam Rifles personnel were killed, and five others were injured, subsequently evacuated to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal.
The deceased Assam Rifles soldiers are Naib-Subedar Shyam Gurung and Rifleman Ranjit Singh Kashyap. No group has yet taken responsibility for the assault.
The Director General of Assam Rifles, Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, expressed his condolences regarding the deaths. In a post on Friday via the Assam Rifles X handle, he remarked: “Lt Gen Vikas Lakhera, AVSM, SM, Director General of Assam Rifles, along with all ranks, pays solemn tribute to Nb Sub Shyam Gurung and Rfn Ranjit Singh Kashyap who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty in Manipur today and extend deep condolences to the families of our Brave Soldiers.”
