Raipur, Feb 25 (NationPress) In an extraordinary initiative led by Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, inmates across Chhattisgarh participated in a cleansing ritual using sacred Sangam water within the confines of their jails on Tuesday.
This special event, inspired by the efforts of the Uttar Pradesh government, was held in five central jails, 20 district jails, and eight sub-jails statewide.
The primary objective was to enhance the mental and spiritual well-being of the inmates by allowing them to partake in the venerated tradition of bathing in the holy Ganga.
On Sunday, Sharma, who is also responsible for the Home portfolio, announced this initiative, referring to it as a means of spiritual purification through a collective bath in Ganga water for the inmates of the state's correctional facilities.
He highlighted that numerous inmates yearn to engage in this sacred ritual for spiritual merit, and the state government aimed to fulfill this aspiration.
Recognizing the profound cultural significance inherent in Indian traditions, Sharma remarked that the government's decision to host this event signifies its dedication to the moral and spiritual rehabilitation of prisoners.
He noted that such initiatives play a crucial role in inmate reform, cultivating positive energy, and preparing them for a more promising future upon rejoining society.
Coinciding with the historic event of Maha Kumbh, the initiative sought to provide spiritual enrichment to the inmates, guiding them towards self-purification and moral upliftment.
The jail administration made special arrangements to ensure a significant spiritual experience, and the inmates participated in the initiative with enthusiasm.
Deputy Chief Minister Sharma reiterated his commitment to continuing such initiatives, indicating that similar programs would be rolled out as part of the extensive effort toward prisoner reform and rehabilitation.
He underlined the value of these measures in not just enhancing the inmates' mental well-being but also in fostering positive changes in their social lives.
"This initiative aims to provide a new direction for prisoners, allowing them to reintegrate into society positively. Generating positive energy among them will enable them to lead improved lives," he said.
Sharma further asserted that organizing such events in prisons would lead to observable positive transformations in the lives of inmates, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to society in the future.
"Our aim is to instigate lasting positive change in the lives of prisoners, and we are committed to realizing this vision," he added.
