Patna, July 26 (NationPress) In a striking political confrontation, Union Minister Chirag Paswan on Saturday challenged Bihar's Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav to fulfill his threat of boycotting the forthcoming Bihar Assembly elections.
Speaking to reporters in Patna, Chirag Paswan accused the RJD-Congress coalition of lacking the bravery to compete in elections independently and termed their boycott claims as a strategy rooted in fear of losing.
Addressing Tejashwi Yadav's previous comments suggesting a potential election boycott due to alleged discrepancies in the voter list update, Chirag Paswan stated: "If you possess the guts, then proceed with the boycott and demonstrate it. The RJD has governed Bihar for 15 years, yet it shies away from contesting alone."
He further remarked that both the RJD — the oldest party in Bihar — and the Congress, the nation’s oldest party, have grown reliant on alliances due to their fear of standing on their own political merit.
"These are the same parties that cannot even compete in elections independently, and now they are talking about boycotting elections? Who are they attempting to intimidate?" he questioned.
Paswan also recounted his own political journey, recalling the 2020 Assembly elections, where he contested independently under challenging personal circumstances.
"I had the courage to fight alone, even when my leader, my father, passed away during the nomination phase in the 2020 Bihar Assembly election. Let them attempt the same if they truly believe in their strength," he stated.
Paswan accused the opposition of consistently engaging in fear-mongering and perpetuating misleading narratives.
"They (Mahagathbandhan) claimed that if the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government returns after the Lok Sabha election 2024, reservations will be abolished, democracy will be destroyed, and the Constitution will be dismantled. It has been a year now — whose reservation has been taken away? Where has the Constitution been dismantled?" Paswan asked.
He also connected the current dispute regarding Special Intensive Revision (SIR) with previous misinformation campaigns surrounding the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), stating: "They spread fear regarding the CAA too, asserting it was intended to revoke citizenship. However, the public didn’t fall for it then, and will not now."
Chirag Paswan concluded by asserting that the opposition has preemptively acknowledged its defeat and is now using the boycott narrative as a façade for their lack of political strength.
