Bhubaneswar, June 16 (NationPress) In response to the rising incidents of diarrhea across Odisha, the state's Health and Family Welfare Minister, Mukesh Mahaling, officially inaugurated the statewide 'Stop Diarrhea' initiative aimed at curbing further transmission of this illness. The campaign was launched at the Community Health Center in Bhuban, located in the Dhenkanal district.
While addressing attendees, Mahaling highlighted that the Odisha government, led by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, is prioritizing the prevention and treatment of diarrhea.
The minister reiterated the administration's commitment to providing advanced medical treatments, essential medicines, and the necessary infrastructure to effectively combat diarrhea.
In addition, a comprehensive awareness campaign has been launched to educate the public about the disease.
He stressed the significance of adopting personal hygiene practices, including handwashing, consuming fresh food, drinking safe water, treating water sources, and avoiding open defecation as key measures to prevent diarrheal diseases.
Moreover, an adequate supply of ORS packets, zinc tablets, and other essential medications have been made available at Anganwadi Kendras, community centers, hospitals, and Arogya Mandirs throughout the state under the 'Stop Diarrhea' campaign, which will run until July 31.
Ground-level health workers, including Anganwadi workers and ANMs, have already received training on identifying and managing diarrhea.
Mahaling has urged health workers to visit local households, distributing pamphlets with awareness information, ORS, zinc tablets, and medications.
He called upon the public to adhere to the guidance provided by healthcare professionals. Meanwhile, a central team investigating the recent surge in diarrheal diseases in the critically affected Jajpur district confirmed that the outbreak was attributed to the cholera vibrio.
“We have identified an outbreak linked to the cholera vibrio. We recommend improving water and food safety, enhancing personal hygiene, and raising awareness,” stated a team member.
Additionally, it was noted that the district administration is actively providing medications and care to affected patients. The initial cases of diarrhea were reported in Jajpur district just days ago, and the situation has since escalated, impacting other regions such as Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Dhenkanal, and Cuttack, posing a significant challenge for the state government.
