Patna, April 10 (NationPress) The Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar, Samrat Choudhary, has sent a correspondence to Union Minister for Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, advocating for an increase in the housing target under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) for the state.

In his communication, Choudhary extended his thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan for setting a target of 7.90 lakh houses for Bihar for the fiscal year 2024–25.

He pointed out that this allocation aids in providing pucca houses to impoverished rural families currently dwelling in kutcha homes or lacking any shelter.

Nonetheless, Choudhary underscored that 5.29 lakh additional families, recognized in the Awas Plus 2018 survey, continue to be on the waiting list of the scheme.

To fill this void, he urged: "We have requested rural development minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to tackle the situation of impoverished individuals residing in Kutcha houses. A physical target of 5.29 lakh houses is needed for Bihar under PMAY-Gramin for FY 2025–26 to ensure these eligible beneficiaries receive housing benefits."

He stressed that a new allocation prior to the anticipated visit of PM Modi to Bihar on April 24 would facilitate the state in releasing the first installment of aid to these beneficiaries during the PM's visit.

Furthermore, Samrat Choudhary informed the Centre that a new survey is in progress to pinpoint additional eligible beneficiaries who were previously overlooked, guaranteeing that no deserving family is excluded.

With the Bihar Assembly elections approaching in October or November, initiatives like this could serve as a tactical move by the BJP to attract voters from underprivileged segments of society.

The central government has been implementing several welfare initiatives for the poor, including 5 kg food grain, various programs related to agriculture, animal husbandry, and fisheries, alongside road, national highway, and bridge projects in Bihar.
