New Delhi, Jan 14 (NationPress) Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is set to announce an extra target of 8.21 lakh houses for timely completion under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) on Wednesday, as per an official announcement.

The Union Cabinet has sanctioned 2 crore additional houses in the new phase of PMAY-G, which is scheduled to roll out from FY 2024-25 to FY 2028-29, with a budget of Rs 3,06,137 crore.

The PMAY-G initiative has set an objective of constructing 3.33 crore houses in rural locales, out of which 3.23 crore houses have been approved and 2.69 crore houses have been finalized, as stated.

Since the scheme's inception, Rs 2.37 lakh crore has been allocated to beneficiaries.

In a bid to incorporate technological advancements, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Awaas+ 2024 mobile app in September 2024, utilizing AI-based facial recognition for precise beneficiary verification.

Moreover, over 2.5 lakh surveyors have been trained for effective execution nationwide.

The initiative also focuses on empowering women, with 74 percent of PMAY-G homes being under women’s sole or joint ownership.

Beneficiaries of PMAY-G also gain from integration with other governmental schemes like MGNREGA, SBM-G, SHGs, Jal Jeevan Mission, and PM-Surya Ghar Yojana.

Launched on April 1, 2016, PMAY-G aspires to construct 4.95 crore houses by March 2029.

The statement notes that Madhya Pradesh has a target of 41,68,046 houses under PMAY-G, with 41,51,931 houses approved and 36,80,620 houses completed, accounting for 88 percent of the total.

According to the Awaas+ 2018 list, 16.42 lakh households in Madhya Pradesh are pending.

For FY 2024-25, Rs 3,726 crore in central assistance has been allocated to Madhya Pradesh, including Rs 2,165 crore released on January 7 this year, ensuring prompt disbursal of the first installment to beneficiaries. If utilized timely, an additional Rs 4,934 crore might be released within the fiscal year, the statement concluded.
