Gandhinagar, March 29 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to launch 38,949 newly built rural homes throughout Gujarat on March 31, marking a major step forward in enhancing housing availability for low-income households through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin).
The construction of these homes, which has incurred an estimated cost of Rs 651 crore, spans several districts and aims to support families who were either without housing or residing in temporary structures.
According to officials, the initiative is designed to elevate rural living conditions, asserting that it offers not just physical shelter but a space that embodies dignity, safety, and stability.
Through the PMAY-G initiative, beneficiaries can access financial aid of Rs 1.20 lakh in installments, with the funding sourced from both the Center and the state in a 60:40 distribution.
The Gujarat government is also providing additional aid, including Rs 50,000 at the roof-casting stage, fully funded by the state.
Those who finalize construction within six months of receiving the initial installment can qualify for an additional Rs 20,000 incentive, and an extra Rs 5,000 is available for bathroom construction, particularly aimed at enhancing convenience for women.
Moreover, beneficiaries can avail of further convergence benefits, including Rs 25,920 for 90 days of employment under MGNREGA and Rs 12,000 for toilet construction under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin).
The state government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring dignified housing for rural families.
In the budget for 2026-27, a provision of Rs 1,755 crore has been allocated for rural housing.
In the current financial year 2025-26, a total of 1,20,381 homes have been constructed, with an assistance total of Rs 1,037.84 crore disbursed to beneficiaries.
Additionally, over Rs 470 crore has been allocated under entirely state-funded components, showcasing the state's development strategy.
The government is also conducting the Awas Plus Survey 2024 to identify and include eligible households that were previously overlooked, aiming to broaden coverage in the upcoming years.
Since the fiscal year 2016-17, the Center has set a target of 8,38,396 houses for Gujarat under PMAY-G, with 8,29,221 already approved. So far, 6,92,554 houses have been completed, with total expenditure hitting Rs 9,083.68 crore.
Among the districts set for inauguration on March 31, Panchmahal has the largest share, with 10,572 units constructed at a cost of Rs 179.18 crore.
In 12 districts across Saurashtra and Kutch, 3,976 houses have been built for Rs 66.54 crore.
Other districts include Mahisagar with 3,222 houses, Narmada (2,367), Kheda (2,345), and Mehsana (2,281). Dahod has 1,804 houses, Sabarkantha (1,717), Chhota Udepur (1,694), and Aravalli (1,556).
Additionally, Patan has 1,237 houses, and Tapi (949). In South Gujarat, Surat has 933 houses and Valsad 834, while Banaskantha has 699, Dang 678, and Navsari 627.
In Ahmedabad, 345 houses are ready for inauguration, with Vav-Tharad at 300, Bharuch at 263, Gandhinagar at 230, Vadodara at 182, and Anand at 138.
Officials anticipate that the forthcoming inauguration will usher in a new era of joy and prosperity for the beneficiary families as the state continues to enhance rural housing provisions under the scheme.
