Gandhinagar, Dec 31 (NationPress) Aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s aspiration of “Har Ghar Ko Chhat”, the Gujarat government has established a goal of constructing over 5 lakh residences under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) within the next five years, as announced by Minister Jitu Vaghani on Wednesday.
During a media briefing following a cabinet meeting in Gandhinagar, Vaghani stated that the Prime Minister has committed to building more than one crore homes nationwide under PMAY over the next five years to ensure that affordable housing is available to all.
As part of this national initiative, Gujarat aims to construct approximately 5.5 lakh houses during the same timeframe.
This planned housing project is expected to deliver permanent residences to millions of economically weaker families within the state, thereby significantly enhancing their living conditions and social security.
To facilitate the timely realization of this target, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has directed the state’s administrative apparatus to make all necessary arrangements in advance, including land identification and completion of procedural requirements.
These instructions were issued by the Chief Minister during the cabinet meeting, highlighting the necessity for methodical planning and collaborative execution.
Vaghani further emphasized that the state government is devoted to expediting housing projects and ensuring the efficient and transparent delivery of benefits from the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana to the intended recipients.
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) is a flagship housing initiative of the Government of India aimed at achieving the vision of “Housing for All” by providing affordable, secure, and permanent homes to economically disadvantaged sections, low-income groups, and middle-income families across both urban and rural areas.
Launched in 2015, this scheme offers financial aid through interest subsidies on home loans, direct support for house construction, and in-situ slum redevelopment, with a strong emphasis on inclusivity, empowering women through mandatory female ownership, employing eco-friendly construction methods, and ensuring transparency through direct benefit transfers.
The PMAY has significantly accelerated the availability of affordable housing, uplifted the living standards of millions of families, and fortified both urban and rural infrastructure, positioning it as one of the most impactful social welfare programs in India.
