Rajouri, March 26 (NationPress) The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), an initiative led by the government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is significantly improving the living conditions and standards of numerous families by offering them pucca houses.

In the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, over 55,000 families have transitioned from kuccha to pucca houses, with additional homes still in the construction phase.

During a visit by the IANS team to Dasal village in Rajouri to evaluate the success of the initiative, they uncovered numerous inspiring stories of transformation from despair to hope.

From Sarpanch Kewal Sharma to local residents, everyone expressed their gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for enabling them to move into stable homes.

Rajouri ACD Vijay Kumar, responsible for executing the scheme and monitoring its reach within the district, informed IANS that to date, more than 55,000 homes have been constructed under the PMAY.

"Approximately 62,000 houses were approved, and of those, over 55,000 have been completed. Some beneficiaries have received government assistance but have yet to commence building," he explained.

Further detailing the eligibility criteria for accessing benefits from the scheme, he noted: "Individuals with a monthly income of less than Rs 15,000 and without a three-wheeler vehicle may apply for the scheme."

Pradeep Kumar, BDO Rajouri, mentioned that a recovery process has been initiated against certain defaulters.

Ranjeeta Devi, a scheme beneficiary, recounted her stressful past living in a kuccha house and how the PMAY has been a blessing for her family.

In an interview with IANS, she stated: “Our house was full of gaps; we faced many challenges during the rainy season, living in constant fear of a collapsing roof. But that fear is gone now.”

"We are incredibly grateful to PM Modi. We never imagined we would have a permanent house. Not only us but many families are benefiting from this scheme," she added.

The PMAY is revolutionizing lives across Rajouri and other areas of Jammu and Kashmir, as it provides individuals with a dignified living under the vision of 'Housing for All'.
