New Delhi, April 17 (NationPress) BJP National General Secretary, Tarun Chugh, on Thursday launched a fierce critique of the Congress for protesting and questioning the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) actions regarding the National Herald case, asserting that it exemplifies a case of "ulta chor kotwal ko daante."
His comments were made following the ED's submission of a charge sheet against prominent figures, including former Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, tied to a money laundering investigation linked to the National Herald case.
In response, AICC General Secretary Jairam Ramesh stated that the party would not be “intimidated” by such maneuvers and raised concerns about the timing of the agency’s actions, labeling them as politically motivated, particularly with the Bihar elections approaching.
Speaking to IANS, Tarun Chugh remarked, “Ulta chor kotwal ko daante. As the law starts to reveal the truth, Congress cries vendetta. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi have been on bail for several years in cases involving deceit, fraud, and embezzlement. Now, when the court demands accountability, they resort to pressure tactics. Does the Congress no longer trust the judicial system of our country?”
He further accused the Congress of prioritizing the Gandhi-Nehru family over the law.
“The Gandhi-Nehru family appears to think that due to their surnames, they are above the law and national institutions. This is not merely a scam or an isolated case of corruption—it’s a betrayal of democracy and the legacy of our freedom fighters. The funds at stake belong to the nation and its citizens, and the Congress’ longstanding culture of institutionalized corruption is now surfacing,” Chugh asserted.
He indicated that the Congress’ recent protests are an effort to disrupt the justice system.
“When the court summons Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, the Congress organizes protests to protect them. They are conveying a message that the law should not affect the Gandhi-Nehru dynasty. This mentality is regrettable and fundamentally undemocratic,” he stated.
Chugh also commented on the recent violence in West Bengal, where three individuals lost their lives, criticizing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for what he deemed selective concern.
“West Bengal is in turmoil, yet Mamata Banerjee is more focused on 'jihadi' elements from the Muslim League and AIMIM. There’s no concern for the Hindus fleeing Murshidabad to save themselves. Relief camps are being dismantled, and migrants are being coerced to return without any assurance of safety,” he claimed.
He expressed strong disapproval of CM Banerjee’s claim that BSF personnel instigated violence by allegedly paying youths to throw stones during the Murshidabad unrest.
“Mamata Banerjee has reached a new low by blaming the BSF and central agencies. Her government has capitulated to the Muslim League’s agenda under the guise of appeasement. The Trinamool Congress is now reflecting the divisive politics of the 1940s, reminiscent of Direct Action Day. Rather than safeguarding its citizens, the state government has allied with those instigating unrest,” Chugh asserted.
He also discussed the Karnataka Transparency in Public Procurements (Amendment) Bill, which aims to provide 4 percent reservation for Muslims in public contracts.
The Bill, which was approved by the state Assembly in March, has been sent by Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot to President Droupadi Murmu for endorsement.
“Congress is attempting to impose unconstitutional religion-based reservations in Karnataka. This contradicts the vision of B.R. Ambedkar and the fundamental principles of the Constitution. They are misleading society under the pretense of caste and religion, steering the country towards perilous communal divides. Congress is using Karnataka and Kerala as testing grounds for division. The nation will not pardon them,” he concluded.
