Chandigarh, Sep 19 (NationPress) BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh expressed his gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi for categorizing the Punjab floods as a "severe disaster" and for allocating an additional Rs 590 crore in relief, supplementing the Rs 13,600 crore previously provided.
Chugh remarked that the citizens of Punjab are thankful for Prime Minister Modi's compassionate and decisive leadership during this challenging time.
He stated, "While Prime Minister Modi has acted as a guardian for Punjab, taking swift actions for farmers, flood victims, and public infrastructure, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has merely made excuses, evaded responsibility, and blamed the Centre to mask his own shortcomings."
The BJP leader further asserted that the floods were not merely a natural disaster but a "Mann-Made Disaster", implicating Chief Minister Mann in the crisis.
Chugh added, "Bhagwant Mann and his political mentor Arvind Kejriwal are entirely accountable. The delay in desilting the Sutlej, surrendering in court rather than defending the people's interests, and the utter failure to implement preventive measures before the monsoon transformed a seasonal challenge into a human tragedy."
He criticized the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress, stating, "Both are two sides of the same coin—one silent, the other destructive. The people of Punjab will never forgive this betrayal."
Regarding the upcoming Assembly session, Chugh urged the Mann government to present a white paper in the House explaining the handling of the Rs 12,000 crore SDRF (State Disaster Response Fund) allocated by the Centre.
He questioned, "Why were these funds not utilized for relief? What caused the delays? Why did hundreds of villages end up submerged due to negligence? The Mann government must provide answers."
Furthermore, he demanded that all sand mining tenders be investigated by the CBI, with the findings presented in the Assembly to determine whether the Punjab government is prioritizing the people of Punjab or the sand mafia.
