A team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the West Bengal Police arrived at the residence of All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) General Secretary and Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee on Kalighat Road in south Kolkata on Monday, 1 June, as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged signature forgeries on a legislative resolution. Instead of appearing in person, he reportedly sent an email to the CID requesting a 15-day extension, citing his physical condition following an alleged assault at Sonarpur in South 24 Parganas district on the afternoon of 30 May.

With Banerjee not presenting himself at headquarters, the CID team proceeded to his Kalighat Road residence. According to reports, the team was kept waiting outside the main gate of the building, with the doors locked from inside.
