Bhopal, May 6 (NationPress) The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, announced on Tuesday that the civil defence mock drills will commence at 4 PM on May 7 across five selected districts in the state.
The districts chosen for this exercise include Indore, Bhopal, Gwalior, Jabalpur, and Katni.
“The mock drill will kick off with air raid warning sirens precisely at 4 PM on May 7, during which civilians and students will receive training in civil defence to ensure their safety in the event of a hostile attack,” stated Chief Minister Mohan Yadav during a Cabinet meeting.
In light of rising tensions between India and Pakistan following a deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has instructed states and Union Territories to conduct these civil defence mock drills to improve emergency readiness.
“Local district administration and police have been notified, and essential guidelines have been provided,” added the Chief Minister.
The MHA noted that civil defence mock drills will take place at 244 locations nationwide, categorized as Civil Defence Districts under the Civil Defence Rules of 1968.
Furthermore, states and Union Territories have been tasked with organizing and overseeing these drills, which will involve local government entities, Civil Defence wardens, Home Guards, National Cadet Corps (NCC), National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers, members of Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS), and students from educational institutions.
The tragic attack in Pahalgam, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals in Kashmir on April 22, has been associated with Pakistan-backed terrorist groups, exacerbating bilateral tensions between India and Pakistan.
In response, India has initiated various diplomatic actions against Pakistan, including the suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT) and the cessation of visa services for Pakistani nationals.
