Jaipur, Jan 19 (NationPress) The weather in Jaipur experienced a dramatic shift on Monday afternoon as dark clouds rolled in and strong winds swept through multiple regions, creating brief storm-like conditions. The Meteorological Department has predicted the arrival of winter rainfall in Rajasthan this week and has issued a yellow alert for rain and thunderstorms across six districts on January 22.
Furthermore, the department has linked the changing weather patterns to an active western disturbance alongside an induced cyclonic circulation over northeast Rajasthan.
Light to moderate fog is expected at isolated locations over the next two days.
A stronger western disturbance is anticipated to activate between January 22 and 24, which will likely result in light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning in parts of Jodhpur, Bikaner, Shekhawati, Jaipur, and Bharatpur divisions.
Poor visibility due to fog has already caused disruptions in traffic.
Earlier today, light to dense fog was reported in several areas of the state, impacting visibility in districts like Jaipur, Kota, Alwar, Dausa, and Bharatpur. In rural parts of Bikaner, dense fog reduced visibility to nearly zero, while Tonk recorded visibility of approximately 50 meters. Cold winds further contributed to a drop in temperatures in Bikaner and surrounding areas.
Weather data indicates that minimum temperatures stayed above 10 degrees Celsius in over ten cities on Sunday, including Jaipur, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Chittorgarh, Kota, Udaipur, Barmer, Jaisalmer, Phalodi, Bikaner, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh, and Jhunjhunu.
The state recorded its lowest minimum temperature of 6.1 degrees Celsius in Karauli.
Additionally, maximum temperatures saw a decline of 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in various regions. Over the last 24 hours, skies remained clear in Bikaner, Jodhpur, Udaipur, and Kota divisions, while Jaipur, Bharatpur, and Ajmer divisions experienced partly cloudy weather.
Due to the cloud cover, minimum temperatures have slightly increased in many districts. On Monday morning, an 18-wheeler trailer carrying garbage overturned near the Sotanala flyover on National Highway-48 in the Kotputli–Behror district around 7:30 am, likely caused by the dense fog.
This overturned vehicle obstructed the Delhi-to-Jaipur lane, resulting in a traffic jam extending nearly four kilometers. Local police responded quickly, initiating clearing operations with cranes and JCB machines. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
