Sugar Mill Workers and the Long Wait for the 7th Pay Scale

The sharpest commitment of the day came in response to a direct request from the Gadarpur MLA. CM Dhami assured that a resolution on extending the saatvaan vetanmaan (seventh pay commission scale) to sugar mill workers would be found 'shortly.' Sugar mills are a lifeline industry in the Terai — the flat, fertile plains that anchor Udham Singh Nagar's economy — and their workers have long been outside the ambit of pay revisions that government employees receive. The CM's public commitment, made at a programme attended by In-charge Minister Pradeep Batra, MLA Arvind Pandey, and MLA Shiv Arora, puts the issue firmly on the state's near-term agenda.

Gularbhoj's Gypsy Permit Problem and Corbett's Tourism Reach

The second assurance addressed a friction point for tourism operators in Gularbhoj, a tourism zone that sits in the broader orbit of Jim Corbett National Park — India's oldest national park, established in 1936. The CM assured a review of the gypsy permit system governing tourist safari vehicles in the area. Permit allocation in Corbett's buffer and peripheral zones has been a recurring bottleneck for local guides and vehicle operators, and any rationalisation would directly benefit the communities that depend on wildlife tourism for their livelihoods.

Two PG Courses for Gadarpur College

For students, the CM promised that Gadarpur College would receive two new postgraduate courses in the future — an assurance that, if followed through, would expand higher education access in a district where students often migrate to Haldwani or Dehradun for advanced degrees. No specific disciplines were named.

Rudrapur Ring Road Inspection

After the public programme, CM Dhami conducted an on-ground inspection of the Rudrapur Ring Road alongside elected representatives and officials. Rudrapur, the industrial hub and district headquarters of Udham Singh Nagar, has seen sustained pressure on its road network from manufacturing traffic. The ring road is part of the state's broader push to ease urban congestion in the growing plains towns of Uttarakhand.
