New Delhi, March 18 (NationPress) Emphasizing the administration’s goal to enhance the city, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday extended an invitation to Opposition legislators from AAP to collaborate with the ruling BJP in substantial discussions within the House, aiming for a united effort toward establishing a Viksit Delhi.
In her keynote speech during the launch of a two-day orientation program for Delhi legislators, CM Gupta described the workshop as a prime opportunity to forge a new chapter in the city's narrative and accelerate developmental initiatives.
“We can honor the responsibility entrusted to us by Delhiites only by optimizing every moment of the legislature,” she stated, sharing a Hindi couplet to seek the Opposition’s collaboration.
As CM Rekha pointed towards Leader of Opposition Atishi, who was present on stage, smiles spread across the Assembly, accompanied by applause from members.
“For the progress of Delhi, including its health and education sectors, we must advance together. Every statement made in the House resonates with millions, hence we should engage in constructive debates while honoring one another and collectively uplift Delhi,” she remarked.
The Chief Minister highlighted the necessity for all legislators to respect the House and adhere to its rules and regulations.
“I commend Speaker Vijender Gupta for organizing the orientation program, alongside Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla,” she remarked, expressing hope that the House would operate in a systematic and productive manner.
Previously, Leader of Opposition Atishi reflected on the Assembly's legacy, once presided over by Sardar Vithalbhai Patel. She noted that the proceedings were graced by prominent leaders such as Lala Lajpat Rai and Madan Mohan Malviya when the House was referred to as the Central Legislative Assembly.
“The British had granted Indian members the right to attend but not to make decisions,” she mentioned.
Praising the Constitution formulated by Babasaheb B.R. Ambedkar, the former Chief Minister stressed that each of the 70 legislators represents millions of constituents.
“I hope that in the upcoming days, we can all meet public expectations,” she concluded.
The two-day orientation program is designed to equip the legislators, many of whom are serving for the first time, with insights into parliamentary procedures, conduct codes, and exemplary governance practices. The event is scheduled to take place in the Assembly Hall on March 18 and 19.
