New Delhi, Feb 20 (NationPress) Pledging to swiftly initiate the mission ‘Viksit Delhi’, the newly appointed Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed her commitment to fulfilling every promise made by the BJP prior to the elections.

In her first address to the media shortly after taking office at the Delhi Secretariat, Chief Minister Gupta emphasized that her administration will not delay even a single day and will tirelessly work towards realizing the vision of ‘Viksit Delhi’.

While criticizing the former AAP government, Gupta condemned the restrictions placed on media access to the Players’ Building, the headquarters of the Delhi government. She remarked, “Today, I take charge and extend a warm welcome to all of you to this office, which you may not have been able to enter in recent years.”

Gupta declared, “This is a public office, and its doors will remain open to everyone, including the media.”

The Chief Minister also outlined her intention to visit the Yamuna, seek blessings from Yamuna maiya, and preside over her first Cabinet meeting later that day, stating, “The agenda will be determined collectively.”

Earlier, Gupta, 50, the MLA representing Shalimar Bagh, took her oath of office at Ramlila Maidan alongside her six Cabinet ministers, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers, and key NDA figures.

Ending the speculation surrounding the next Chief Minister of Delhi, Gupta was selected as the leader of the BJP legislature party on Wednesday, paving her way to assume the prestigious role during a grand ceremony.

A practicing advocate, Gupta expressed gratitude to the senior BJP leadership for their confidence in her.

“I sincerely thank the top leadership for believing in me and for giving me the opportunity to serve as Chief Minister. This trust has inspired a renewed energy within me. I am dedicated to working with complete integrity and commitment for the benefit of Delhi's residents, aiming to elevate the city to new heights,” Gupta stated on X in Hindi.

She was appointed as the new Chief Minister during a BJP legislature party meeting at the state party office on Pant Marg, overseen by two central observers – former Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad and BJP National Secretary Om Prakash Dhankhar.

As the meeting commenced to elect the BJP legislature leader, there was considerable speculation regarding a female legislator taking charge, which was confirmed with Gupta’s election, making her the fourth woman Chief Minister of Delhi, following Sushma Swaraj (BJP), Sheila Dikshit (Congress), and Atishi (AAP).
