Patna, Sep 8 (NationPress) Bihar's Chief Minister Nitish Kumar officially launched 80 new buses exclusively for women passengers in Patna on Monday, further emphasizing the government's dedication to ensuring safe and comfortable travel for women.
The event took place at the Chief Minister's residence, attended by Deputy CMs Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, along with Transport Minister Sheela Kumari.
Prior to the launch, the Chief Minister and other officials examined the buses, which feature CCTV cameras, panic buttons, a GPS tracking system, charging stations, sanitary pad vending machines, and a music system.
The buses will also provide e-ticketing options, allowing women to book tickets ahead of time.
This initiative marks the second phase of women-only bus services in Bihar.
A few weeks earlier, Nitish Kumar had inaugurated a fleet of pink buses for female riders.
In this new set of buses, female conductors will manage operations, while male drivers will be in charge. Most buses will operate on various routes within Patna, with others linking neighboring districts, ensuring safe, hassle-free, and secure transportation for women.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is strategically targeting women voters, a vital demographic in the state's electoral landscape.
Over the years, Nitish has established a reputation for implementing policies designed to empower women, and he is intensifying these efforts.
His administration has allocated 35 percent reservation for women in government roles and educational admissions, expanded the Social Security Pension Scheme, increased pensions from Rs 400 to Rs 1,100, and introduced special initiatives for Jeevika sisters (self-help groups) to boost rural women's income and decision-making involvement.
These initiatives go beyond social welfare—they are part of a strategic electoral approach.
Women voters have historically shown strong support for Nitish Kumar, especially due to his previous policies like prohibition and providing cycles for schoolgirls.
With the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections on the horizon, Nitish is clearly focused on reinforcing this support base.
