Imphal, Jan 14 (NationPress) Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh criticized the Congress party and their two Lok Sabha representatives from the state for their inaction on critical matters. Speaking at the ‘Sambhidhan Gaurav Abhiyan’ event at the BJP state headquarters in Thambal Shanglen, he condemned the two MPs for their alleged indifference towards significant issues, including the Free Movement Regime (FMR), border fencing with Myanmar, and the problem of illegal immigration.

“These MPs remain silent in the Lok Sabha. Why do people continue to vote for them? They are failing to represent the interests of the citizens. Elected officials need to be more accountable,” he stated.

In the April-May Lok Sabha elections last year, the Congress party secured both Lok Sabha seats: Inner Manipur (Angomcha Bimol Akoijam) and Outer Manipur (Alfred Kanngam S Arthur).

Biren Singh further encouraged BJP members to adopt a more assertive approach.

“Our ‘Karyakartas’ appear to be hesitant. Educated and patriotic individuals support the BJP, but they must actively advocate for important issues,” he urged.

In his address, he lauded Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi for their invaluable contributions to upholding constitutional values, attributing the PM’s initiatives to a greater understanding of the Constitution. He also discussed the necessary limitations under Article 19 of the Constitution, emphasizing the need to balance free speech with responsibility.

Addressing the issue of Myanmar refugees, he reaffirmed the government's commitment to repatriate immigrants to their homeland to avoid a demographic crisis, while criticizing others for merely engaging in empty rhetoric.

Additionally, the Chief Minister commented on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's choice of attire during Constitution-related events. “Dressing in a T-shirt, jeans, and sandals while holding the Constitution shows a lack of decorum,” he remarked.
