Chennai, June 7 (NationPress) In a significant move toward environmental restoration and urban sustainability, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is poised to lay the foundation stone for the Adyar River Restoration Project (ARRP) in September. This ambitious project, valued at Rs 1,800 crore, seeks to rejuvenate the 44-kilometre-long Adyar River, which begins in Guduvanchery and flows through regions like Tambaram, Tiruneermalai, Manapakkam, Alandur, and Saidapet, ultimately draining into the Bay of Bengal.
The initiative will be implemented through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, utilizing the Hybrid Annuity Mode. Funding will comprise Rs 1,500 crore sourced from the Chennai Rivers Restoration Company Ltd. along with an additional Rs 300 crore from the Tamil Nadu state government.
A Detailed Project Report (DPR) for ARRP is currently being prepared and is anticipated to be submitted by August. This report is the result of a thorough joint inspection conducted by experts from the Industries Department, academic researchers, and technical specialists. Housing units for the remaining 3,286 families have been finalized and are prepared for occupancy.
In May, a significant relocation effort facilitated the movement of 916 families from the Anakaputhur area to TNUHDB housing sites in Perumbakkam, Keerapakkam, and Thailavaram.
