Bhubaneswar, Jan 16 (NationPress) Odisha Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan stated on Thursday that Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will make the ultimate decision regarding the requests for a CBI investigation into the shocking murder case of former minister and prominent BJD leader Naba Kishore Das.

Das was fatally shot by an Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI) of Police in Brajrajnagar, located in Jharsuguda, on January 29, 2023.

In a media briefing on Thursday, Harichandan mentioned that the crime branch's inquiry into the former minister's murder had not produced any fruitful results, as the family had not clarified their position on the issue.

He also pointed out that the BJP, which was in opposition at the time, had been advocating for a CBI investigation, asserting that the truth of the case could not be uncovered through the crime branch's efforts.

“Even though the individual who discharged the firearm has been apprehended, we were left with unanswered questions regarding why he opened fire and who instigated him. The previous BJD-led state government failed to provide any answers. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will determine whether to reopen the case or pursue another course of action,” Harichandan stated.

On Wednesday, Das’s daughter and former MLA Dipali Das questioned if the government led by Mohan Majhi would commence a CBI investigation into her father's murder.

“During the last Assembly session, two BJP MLAs addressed the issue of a CBI investigation into my father's death. BJP workers are also raising this matter on various social media platforms, questioning why I am not calling for a CBI probe. My question to the Mohan Majhi government and those MLAs is, will you initiate a CBI investigation into my father's death?” Dipali queried.

She further accused certain media outlets and social media users of making disparaging remarks about the former MLA and her family, questioning them for their lack of demand for a CBI investigation. She expressed that her family is experiencing significant mental distress due to these comments.
