Bhubaneswar, March 19 (NationPress) The Odisha Police Crime Branch has initiated a renewed investigation into the homicide of the former State Health Minister and prominent Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Naba Kishore Das, as reported by officials.
A dedicated team from the crime branch has begun documenting the statements of Das's relatives.
Commenting on this development, the State Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan stated, "The circumstances surrounding the assassination of then Health Minister Naba Das in broad daylight have cast doubt on Odisha's law and order situation. Following discussions led by CM Mohan Charan Majhi to revisit the case, today, a Crime Branch team convened with the family of the late Naba Das. The police recorded their statements, marking the commencement of the case's reopening process."
Harichandan further expressed confidence that the truth regarding the murder of former Health Minister Naba Das will be uncovered, and the investigation by the state's crime branch will reach completion soon.
In a contrasting viewpoint, BJD MLA Goutam Buddha Das rebutted claims that the investigation was inadequately conducted under the previous BJD administration.
"The murder case of the ex-Health Minister was exceedingly sensitive. The Crime Branch investigated the matter during Naveen Patnaik's government. At that time, the BJP was in opposition, advocating for a CBI inquiry. We welcomed any form of investigation. However, as per the Law Minister's recent statement, the Crime Branch will continue the investigation, indicating that the process during the BJD's tenure was appropriate and the BJP's allegations were politically motivated," he asserted.
Naba Das's daughter and former MLA Dipali Das stated on Tuesday that she has sought an audience with CM Mohan Majhi to discuss her family's concerns regarding the matter.
She also mentioned that they will advocate for a CBI inquiry into her father's murder during the meeting with CM Mohan Charan Majhi.
It is essential to note that an Assistant Sub Inspector of Police allegedly shot Das while he was exiting his vehicle at Gandhi Square in the Brajarajnagar area of Jharsuguda district on January 29, 2023. He subsequently succumbed to his injuries while being treated at Apollo Hospital in Bhubaneswar.
