Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 3 (NationPress) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the Indian women’s cricket team for achieving a historic milestone by clinching their first ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup title, dubbing it a “moment of immense pride for our nation”.
In a social media post, he praised the team’s indomitable spirit and emphasized that their success would motivate countless young women to pursue their aspirations with courage.
“The tenacity exhibited by the Indian team throughout the tournament merits special recognition. This victory is a proud moment not just for Indian cricket and the sports community, but also for our entire country. In a society where male achievements are often highlighted, this World Cup triumph will act as a potent source of inspiration for every girl in India,” CM Vijayan stated in his congratulatory message on Facebook.
This landmark achievement has propelled women’s cricket to unprecedented heights and ignited celebrations nationwide.
Beyond being a sporting victory, the triumph signifies women's empowerment and a transformation in societal perceptions. As CM Vijayan pointed out, this success will inspire a new generation of girls to believe that no dream—whether on the field or off it—is unattainable.
Supporting CM Vijayan’s sentiments, Niketha Ramankutty, former chairperson of the South Zone Women’s Selection Committee and the Kerala Women’s Selection Committee, remarked that although there are currently no Malayalees in the Indian test team, Kerala can still take pride in Arundhathy Reddy, who has been a member of the Kerala Women’s senior team for the past two years.
“This victory will undoubtedly increase interest in women’s cricket in Kerala, as many viewers were captivated by the match last night. Presently, five Malayalees are included in the Indian ODI and T20 squads. This is a remarkable achievement for Kerala, and the recent win will propel the sport to even greater heights, with Reddy’s participation providing a significant boost to her teammates. Furthermore, Jayesh George, the current president of the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA), has been appointed as the inaugural chairman of the Women’s Premier League, which will also benefit women’s cricket in Kerala,” Ramankutty stated.
