Coaching Centre in Jaipur Shut Down Following Student Illnesses

Jaipur, Dec 16 (NationPress) The Utkarsh Coaching Centre in Rajasthan's Jaipur has been closed after numerous students experienced health issues, including fainting, while on the premises, officials reported.

A team from the Greater Municipal Corporation, led by Mansarovar Zone Deputy Commissioner Laxmikant Katara, took action to seal the centre on Monday.

The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team collected samples of water and CCTV footage from the classroom for further investigation.

This closure follows a troubling incident on Sunday when several students fainted during a class on the second floor of the coaching centre located in Mahesh Nagar (Shri Gopal Nagar) at approximately 6:45 p.m. Reports indicated a peculiar odor filled the classroom, resulting in students coughing profusely and losing consciousness. Shortly thereafter, the management called for 108 ambulance services, and fellow students assisted in transporting the unconscious individuals to a nearby private hospital.

A doctor from a private hospital confirmed that seven students were admitted with symptoms of suffocation and respiratory distress, while other affected students were taken to different medical facilities. The doctor noted, "The impacted students exhibited coughing and breathlessness but are now in stable condition."

Amidst the turmoil, a confrontation erupted between law enforcement and some student leaders.

Authorities have dismissed the possibility of a gas leak or odors coming from the kitchen of a nearby PG facility. The precise cause of the incident remains unknown.

On Monday, the municipal corporation's investigative team conducted a comprehensive examination of the premises. Deputy Commissioner Katara stated that the coaching centre would remain sealed until the investigation concludes.

A six-member committee has been established to supervise the inquiry, comprising Executive Engineer Sandeep Mathur, Assistant City Planner Seema Mathur, Revenue Officer Sunil Bairwa, Assistant Fire Officer Devang Yadav, Chief Health Inspector Suresh Kumar, and Assistant Health Inspector Neha Mandavariya. However, no specific deadline has been set for the completion of their findings.

In the meantime, the incident has ignited widespread discussion. Former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has advocated for relocating coaching centres to the designated coaching hub in Pratap Nagar, expressing concern over the potential for more serious incidents.
