Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Nagpur (Maharashtra), April 13 (NationPress) — The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has successfully dismantled an inter-state cocaine trafficking operation, leading to the seizure of 853 grams of cocaine valued at approximately Rs 4.26 crore, as reported by officials on Monday.
The DRI's operation was executed by its Nagpur Regional Unit of the Mumbai Zone (DRI, NaRU), following precise intelligence inputs.
On April 12, acting on a tip-off, DRI officers intercepted a woman traveling on Train No. 22692 Hazrat Nizamuddin – KSR Bengaluru Rajdhani Express as it passed through Nagpur Railway Station.
Officials suspected the woman was transporting narcotics concealed in her belongings. Officers boarded the train in Nagpur and asked the passenger to disembark for a thorough inspection. She subsequently exited at Ajni Railway Station, where a meticulous search was performed.
During the examination, officials discovered two shampoo bottles in her luggage that felt unusually heavy. Upon further investigation, the liquid was drained, revealing 50 yellow-colored sealed capsules concealed inside.
The capsules contained a white powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine via a field drug testing kit.
"The total recovery consists of 50 capsules containing 853 grams of cocaine, with an estimated market value of around Rs 4.26 crore," stated a DRI official.
The contraband was confiscated under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. The woman was arrested under the same legislation.
On April 12, the accused was presented before the Holiday Court in Nagpur, which remanded her to judicial custody.
The DRI noted that investigations are ongoing to uncover the broader network involved in this trafficking scheme and to determine the source and intended destination of the drugs.
Highlighting its recent efforts against drug networks, the agency emphasized that it has been consistently executing intelligence-driven operations.
In recent months, DRI Nagpur dismantled a Mephedrone manufacturing unit in Karanja Ghadge, Wardha district, recovering 128 kg of the drug in December 2025. Additionally, it intercepted 522 kg of ganja at Bhagemari Toll Plaza in January 2026 and seized 729 kg of ganja in Bhilai in February 2026. Furthermore, 4.9 kg of Mephedrone was recovered in Amravati in February 2026.
These continuous actions reflect the agency's strict enforcement approach and commitment to a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics.
The DRI reiterated that such operations are a part of its broader mission to dismantle organized drug trafficking networks operating across state lines and to contribute to the Government of India’s vision of a "Nasha Mukt Bharat".
