Imphal, Sep 20 (NationPress) The government of Manipur, on Saturday, declared a monetary compensation for the families of two Assam Rifles personnel who were martyred and five others who sustained injuries due to an attack by unidentified gunmen in the Bishnupur district, as reported by officials.
Manipur's Commissioner-cum-Secretary (Home), N. Ashok Kumar, stated that in honor of the sacrifices made by the families of the deceased, the government has announced an ex-gratia payment of Rs 5 lakh for the families of those who lost their lives and Rs 2 lakh for those who suffered severe injuries.
Moreover, the state government will provide all necessary support during the medical treatment and rehabilitation of the injured personnel, he further noted.
Kumar expressed that the Manipur government is profoundly troubled by the recent attack on Assam Rifles personnel on September 19, which resulted in the death of two personnel and injuries to five others.

Two personnel from the Assam Rifles, including a Naib-Subedar, were killed, and five others were injured when a group of unidentified armed militants ambushed a vehicle belonging to the paramilitary force along the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway (NH-2) in the Nambol Sabal Leikai area of Bishnupur district.
The Defence spokesperson further stated that a unit of the Assam Rifles was transitioning from its Patsoi company operating base to the Nambol company operating base when they were ambushed in the vicinity of Nambol Sabal Leikai on the highway, which is in a denotified area of Manipur.
