How Did Assam Rifles Honor the Brave Soldiers Killed in Manipur Ambush?

Imphal, Sep 20 (NationPress) On Saturday, the Governor of Manipur and the chief of the Army's Eastern Command led a heartfelt tribute to the two valiant Assam Rifles personnel who lost their lives and five others who sustained injuries due to an unidentified armed group in the Bishnupur district of Manipur.

According to Defence spokesman Lt Col Amit Shukla, a poignant ceremony was conducted under the auspices of the Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South), where deep respects were paid to Naib-Subedar Shyam Gurung (59) and Rifleman Ranjit Singh Kashyap (36).

Both Gurung and Kashyap made the ultimate sacrifice during an ambush at Nambol Sabal Leikei in Bishnupur District on Friday, September 19.

The spokesman explained that the two brave soldiers were returning with their team from flood relief efforts in the Imphal Valley when their convoy was attacked by unidentified insurgents along the Imphal-Dimapur National Highway (NH-2) in the Nambol Sabal Leikai area of Bishnupur district.

Despite suffering severe gunshot wounds, both soldiers exemplified the highest standards of bravery and selflessness, ultimately sacrificing their lives for the nation, stated Lt Col Shukla.

To honor their heroism, a wreath-laying ceremony took place at Mantripukhri Garrison in Imphal, attended by approximately 150 individuals, including dignitaries, troops, and veterans.

Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Lt Gen Ram Chander Tiwari, the General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Command, led the homage.

High-ranking officials and representatives from Assam Rifles, Directorate General Assam Rifles (DGAR), Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Border Security Force (BSF), and Manipur Police joined to pay their respects, laying wreaths and observing a solemn guard of honour.

Veteran servicemen and former personnel also gathered to show their respect and solidarity, reflecting the enduring spirit of camaraderie and sacrifice that unites the armed forces community.

The Assam Rifles stands in solemn remembrance of its fallen heroes, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to honoring the legacy of those who serve with distinction.

This force continues to uphold the values of patriotism, duty, and service to the nation, drawing strength from the bravery and dedication of its heroes, noted the Defence PRO.

Former Chief Minister of Manipur, N. Biren Singh, state Congress President Keisham Meghachandra Singh, and a multitude of leaders from various political parties and organizations, including the apex tribal organization Kuki-Zo Council (KZC), condemned the attack on the Assam Rifles convoy that resulted in the deaths of two personnel and injured five others.
