Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 12 (NationPress) Senior Congress officials in Kerala have fervently criticized the Kerala Police and the Pinarayi Vijayan administration after three KSU leaders involved in a student conflict were brought to court with their faces obscured by black cloth and their hands restrained.
KPCC President Sunny Joseph described the act as a significant infringement on human rights.
“Acting on a fabricated complaint from SFI, the Vadakkanchery police paraded KSU activists as if they were terrorists. Officers, acting as mere foot soldiers for the CPI(M), are responsible for such disgraceful behavior. The Home Department must explain what treasonous crime these young individuals committed to deserve such treatment,” he asserted.
He cautioned that the Congress party would hold the officers accountable. “You might find pleasure in these despicable actions today, but be aware, such protection is not everlasting.”
AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal called upon the Human Rights Commission to initiate suo motu action against the officers involved.
“This is an overt violation of constitutional rights. The KSU students were treated like they were accused of sedition. Such instances indicate that police stations in Kerala are becoming akin to concentration camps,” he remarked.
Venugopal criticized the Chief Minister for his silence, adding: “This brutality has adversely affected the mental health of our youth. This is not the end, and the CM should remember that,”
KPCC Working President A.P. Anil Kumar stated that the police had lost their composure.
“The case itself is baseless. The KSU students, who were assaulted by SFI activists, were wrongfully accused. This incident illustrates the failure of the Home Department. Strict action must be taken against the officers who undermined the morale of the students,” he insisted.
Senior Congress legislator Ramesh Chennithala also denounced the incident.
“These young people are neither anti-national nor hardened criminals. If the Vadakkanchery police operate as CPI(M)’s henchmen, they should realize that the Congress knows how to counter it. Once the government changes, action will be taken without remorse. Criminals in uniform should not presume they can relax at home with their pensions,” he warned.
The strong remarks illustrate the escalating political tension regarding the management of student politics in Kerala, with the opposition alleging that the police are acting under political influence.
