Bhopal, Oct 16 (NationPress) On Thursday, the Congress party expressed its disapproval of Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan following the registration of an FIR against state Congress chief Jitu Patwari in the wake of a protest.
The FIR was filed at a Bhopal police station after a dramatic protest unfolded on Wednesday, where protesters carried a sack of paddy on their shoulders.
Madhya Pradesh Congress's media cell leader, Mukesh Nayak, who stood alongside Patwari during the protest, claimed that the FIR was an attempt to stifle the opposition's voice.
“When we visited Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan at his residence, he was very cordial and promised support for farmers. However, upon leaving, he promptly lodged an FIR against me and PCC chief Jitu Patwari. This reflects his duplicity,” Nayak stated in a press conference.
Nayak further pointed out that when large events organized by self-proclaimed religious leaders lead to fatalities due to traffic jams, the BJP government remains inactive.
“Shivraj Singh Chouhan has erred significantly. The Congress will continue to unveil his misdeeds,” Nayak asserted.
The FIR was registered at the TT Nagar police station.
On Wednesday, Patwari, together with approximately 50 party members and farmers, left the Congress office without notifying the police or local administration, resulting in chaos along their route.
Despite police efforts to halt the group by erecting barricades and deploying vehicles, minor skirmishes erupted as Congress members pushed forward towards Chouhan's residence.
The protest aimed to spotlight farmers' issues and advocate for direct payments for their products instead of through the Bhavantar Yojana.
In the midst of the disturbance, Chouhan exited to meet the demonstrators and later invited Patwari and his team for discussions.
