Ashoknagar (Madhya Pradesh), July 8 (NationPress) - Madhya Pradesh Congress Chief Jitu Patwari stated that the police in Ashoknagar have promised to retract an FIR filed against him at the Mungaoli police station following an investigation.
Patwari's remarks came after he ended a protest organized by Congress outside the Superintendent of Police (SP) office in Ashoknagar district.
The demonstration, titled 'Nyay Satyagraha', was held to contest the FIR against Patwari, which arose from a controversial video that surfaced on June 29.
“Police officials approached us and confirmed that the FIR against me at Mungaoli police station would be annulled. They also committed to reviewing the circumstances surrounding the FIR's filing,” Patwari told reporters.
He alleged that the FIR was initiated under the directives of the BJP-led state government.
“I harbor no ill will towards police or administrative staff in Madhya Pradesh. As the Opposition, Congress has the duty to voice public concerns. While police can act against us if we err, they are expected to remain impartial,” Patwari asserted.
Criticizing the state police and administrative officials, he remarked that the way they are treating Opposition members implies they have “forgotten the service rule book” and are acting as “agents of the BJP.”
“In the coming days, Congress workers will reach out to officials and present them with a service rule book respectfully. While we have no desire to blame the police or administrative officials, their actions have compelled us to do so,” he added.
Patwari also noted that over 50,000 Congress members and leaders took part in the protest at the SP office in Ashoknagar on Tuesday.
“Today's protest sends a clear message to the BJP government that Congress workers are prepared to resist its oppressive rule,” he concluded.
To maintain law and order, a significant police presence was deployed in the district, and they conducted thorough vehicle checks leading to tensions with Congress leaders.
The FIR against Patwari was filed at Mungaoli police station on June 29 after a video went viral featuring a youth named Raghuraj Lodhi, who claimed that the village sarpanch and his son assaulted his brother, Gajraj Lodhi, and coerced him into consuming human waste.
Patwari faces charges under various sections including 61(2) for criminal conspiracy, 196(1)(a) for promoting enmity, 197(1)(c) for actions causing disharmony, 229(2) for fabricating false evidence, 237 for false declarations, and 353(1)(c) for mischief under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
