Congress Critiques India's Foreign Policy Amid West Asia Tensions
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 1 (NationPress) The Congress party delivered a sharp critique of the Union government's foreign policy amidst rising tensions in West Asia, asserting that India's foreign policy has been thoroughly revealed.
Following their condemnation of the US-Israel coordinated attack on Iran, Congress urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration to take action for the safety of Indian expatriates. Jairam Ramesh, the Congress General Secretary for Communications, shared on social media via X, stating, "The nation is bearing a heavy toll due to both the content and approach of Modi's foreign policy."
Ramesh, also a former Union Minister, highlighted several points he believes showcase the government's ineffective foreign strategy.
"No matter how much the Prime Minister and his circle attempt to create an illusion, the truth is that India's foreign policy under the so-called 'Vishwa Guru' has been completely revealed," he remarked.
He pointed out, "The American President (Donald Trump) continues to maintain a close relationship with Pakistan, repeatedly praising the individual whose provocative remarks contributed to the terrorist attacks in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025. The US has evidently backed Pakistan in its conflict with Afghanistan."
Ramesh also mentioned Operation Sindoor, stating, "So far, the American President has claimed over a hundred times that he intervened to stop Operation Sindoor by threatening to impose tariffs on Indian exports on May 10, 2025. Yet, the Prime Minister remains completely silent regarding these statements by President Trump."
The Congress representative criticized the India-US trade agreement as 'one-sided' and accused the announcement by the US President of being made under PM Modi's pressure.
In reference to PM Modi's recent trip to Israel, Ramesh asserted, "The government's reaction to this enforced war on Iran is a betrayal of India's values, principles, concerns, and interests."
Discussing India's relationship with China, Ramesh stated, "PM Modi publicly gave China a clean slate on June 19, 2020. This alarming statement was made while 20 of our valiant soldiers were martyred at the Ladakh border. Such a clean slate has severely weakened our negotiating stance."
