Bhubaneswar, Sep 14 (NationPress) AICC General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal asserted on Sunday that the Congress party is assuming the role of the primary opposition in Odisha.
During a media interaction in Bhubaneswar, Venugopal stated, “We are actively engaged in the opposition against the BJP government both at the Central and state levels. Today, we reiterated our commitment to function as a genuine opposition party in Odisha.” He highlighted that alongside the issue of ‘Vote Chori’, the party will advocate for matters related to unemployment, women’s rights, and the concerns of tribal communities in Odisha.
The AICC General Secretary, currently in Odisha, held discussions with members of the Political Affairs Committee (PAC), Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) observers, senior party leaders, legislators, and workers during two significant meetings at the Congress headquarters on Sunday.
Through his X handle, Venugopal shared, “Today, I attended the Political Affairs Committee meeting of the Odisha PCC and the gathering of PCC Observers appointed under the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan in Bhubaneswar. The PAC focused on enhancing the organization, the ongoing “Vote Chor, Gaddi Chhod” signature campaign, and planned further political initiatives across the state.”
He conveyed that the meeting also addressed the concerning increase in crimes against women, the disappearance of women, and the overall misgovernance by the BJP-led Odisha Government. “We emphasized the necessity of strengthening the organization at both the district and grassroots levels, with PCC observers playing a pivotal role in this endeavor. The Congress stands resolutely with the people of Odisha in their quest for justice, dignity, and democracy,” Venugopal remarked.
As per party sources, during the PAC meeting, he noted that under the leadership of OPCC president Bhakta Charan Das, the Congress is progressing positively in Odisha. Venugopal further indicated that the selection process for presidents in all 35 organizational districts in Odisha under the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan would conclude by September 30.
He expressed optimism that the Congress is increasingly being recognized by the populace as the principal opposition party in Odisha. Venugopal voiced confidence that with the diligent efforts of party leaders and workers, victory over both the BJP and the BJD is achievable. He also announced that the performance of newly appointed district presidents will be evaluated every three months.
