During the closing ceremony of the Neermahal Jal Utsav at Melaghar in the Sepahijala district, the Chief Minister highlighted that the BJP administration is dedicated to enhancing all tourist locations across the state.
Saha mentioned that the Prime Minister will also perform puja at the temple, situated 65 km south of Agartala. “I previously invited the Prime Minister to officiate the inauguration of the redeveloped temple,” he stated.
An official from the Tourism Department revealed that under the PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) initiative of the Union Tourism Ministry, the 524-year-old Tripura Sundari temple has undergone redevelopment at an investment exceeding Rs 52 crore.
The Tripura government has also allocated Rs 7 crore for this endeavor. “Replicas of all 51 Shakti Peethas are being constructed at the ongoing 51-Shakti Peethas Park in Banduar, Gomati district, with a budget of Rs 97 crore,” he added.
The Neermahal Jal Utsav is an annual event that attracts a significant number of visitors from both within and outside the state. Neermahal, meaning water palace, is a stunning royal mansion situated in the middle of the expansive Rudrasagar lake, located 53 km south of Agartala.
The palace was commissioned by Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikya in 1930 as his summer retreat, inspired by Mughal architecture. The Chief Minister emphasized that such a water palace is unparalleled in all of eastern India.
“The government is committed to showcasing the importance of Neermahal to both domestic and international audiences. Many remain unaware of its beauty. With the rise of social media, it is crucial to promote the culture and traditions of Neermahal so that awareness increases. More visitors will boost the local economy. Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore blended cultures to create Neermahal, a truly magnificent site of pride,” said Saha, who also oversees the Information and Cultural portfolio.
He further stated that under the Swadesh Darshan scheme of the Union Tourism Ministry, the government plans to enhance the Raj Ghat of Neermahal.
“PM Modi is dedicated to preserving our ancient cultures and traditions. In the Northeast, Tripura ranks second in terms of per capita and GDP. We are striving for the advancement and development of rural areas, and we must unite to achieve Ek Tripura, Shrestha Tripura,” Saha concluded.
During the event, notable attendees included Higher Education Minister Kishor Barman, Sepahijala Zila Parishad Sabhadhipati Supriya Das Datta, MLA Taffazal Hossain, District Magistrate Sidharth Shiv Jaiswal, and Superintendent of Police Bijoy Debbarma.
