Agartala, Sep 7 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is anticipated to formally inaugurate the newly revamped Tripura Sundari temple, recognized as one of the 51 Shakti Peethas revered by Hindus, situated in Udaipur, southern Tripura, on September 22, authorities disclosed on Sunday.
A high-ranking official from the Tripura government mentioned that the Prime Minister's travel schedule is yet to be confirmed, with September 22 remaining a provisional date for the temple's inauguration.
On Saturday, top officials including Director General of Police Anurag visited the headquarters of Gomati district in Udaipur to assess the potential preparations for the Prime Minister's visit. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, along with other ministers, is expected to arrive on Sunday or Monday to supervise the likely arrangements for PM Modi’s visit and the temple's opening,” the official stated to IANS, choosing to remain anonymous.
The Chief Minister of Tripura had previously invited the Prime Minister to inaugurate the newly redeveloped Tripura Sundari temple located in Udaipur, approximately 65 km south of Agartala.
According to the official, the PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) initiative from the Union Tourism Ministry has facilitated the redevelopment of the 524-year-old Tripura Sundari temple, with an investment exceeding Rs 52 crore. The Tripura government also contributed Rs 7 crore to this endeavor.
The Tripura Sundari temple, located in the Gomati district of southern Tripura, stands as an emblem of the state's vibrant cultural heritage. The Prime Minister's formal opening of the redeveloped temple will underscore its importance, as stated by the official.
Constructed in 1501 by the former king Maharaja Dhanya Manikya in Udaipur, it ranks among the 51 Shakti Peethas in India and is the third of its kind in eastern India, following the Kali temple in Kolkata’s Kalighat and the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati.
Following the end of the 517-year reign by various kings, the erstwhile princely state of Tripura came under Indian governance on October 15, 1949, after a merger agreement was signed between Kanchan Prabha Devi, the then regent Maharani, and the Indian Governor General.
The official noted that to enhance and preserve the spiritual heritage, the Union Tourism Ministry has sanctioned a Rs 97.70 crore project to establish a 51-Shakti Peethas Park in the tranquil Banduar area of southern Tripura, which holds religious significance being only 4 km from the Tripura Sundari temple.
On July 13, the Chief Minister laid the foundation stone and participated in the Bhumi Pujan for the 51-Shakti Peethas Park. As per the official, the proposed park site at Banduar is a serene village in the Gomati district, enveloped by lush greenery, providing a peaceful atmosphere.
“The 51 Shakti Peethas Park represents a bold initiative in religious tourism, set to be developed in Banduar village. This unique project aims to offer an immersive experience for visitors by displaying replicas of the 51 Shakti Peeth temples from across the Indian subcontinent, reflecting the rich cultural and spiritual heritage associated with Shakti (Devi) worship in Hinduism,” the official indicated.
The park will include a variety of facilities designed to improve the visitor experience, such as a food court with ample seating, a souvenir shop, drinking water amenities, well-constructed roads with parking, public restrooms, guest accommodations, beautifully landscaped gardens, mythology museums, and a multitude of entertainment options.
