Agartala, Feb 24 (NationPress) Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has extended an invitation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah to officiate the inauguration of the newly revamped Tripura Sundari temple, a significant site among the 51 Shakti Peethas revered by Hindus, located in Udaipur, southern Tripura.

According to Tripura Tourism and Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury, the redevelopment of the 524-year-old Tripura Sundari temple has been executed under the PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) initiative of the Union Tourism Ministry, with an expenditure exceeding Rs 52 crore.

The state government also contributed Rs 7 crore to this initiative, and the construction agency is expected to hand over the revamped temple to the government shortly.

“The temple priests, based on the Hindu religious calendar, have proposed April 7 as the optimal date for the temple's inauguration. During a recent visit to Delhi, the Chief Minister officially invited the Prime Minister and Home Minister to this event. They will finalize the date for the inauguration based on their schedules,” Chowdhury informed the media.

He emphasized that the Tripura Sundari temple, situated in the Gomati district of southern Tripura, is not just a temple but a symbol of the state's rich cultural heritage, and having the Prime Minister inaugurate it would underline its importance.

Established in 1501 by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya, the temple is located in Udaipur, approximately 65 km south of Agartala. It stands as one of India's 51 Shakti Peethas and is the third such shrine in eastern India, following the Kali temple in Kolkata and the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati.

A government official from Tripura stated that the redevelopment of the Tripura Sundari temple is nearing completion, with only minor construction remaining.

After the 517-year reign of numerous kings, the princely state of Tripura merged with India on October 15, 1949, following an agreement signed by Kanchan Prabha Devi, the then-regent Maharani, and the Indian Governor General.

To safeguard and enhance the spiritual heritage, the Union Tourism Ministry recently approved a Rs 97.70 crore project aimed at establishing a 51-Shakti Peethas Park in Banduar, southern Tripura.

This proposed park holds religious significance, located just 4 km from the Tripura Sundari temple.

According to the official, the site for the 51-Shakti Peethas Park in Banduar is a tranquil village enveloped by lush greenery, providing a serene atmosphere for visitors.

“The 51 Shakti Peethas Park is an ambitious religious tourism initiative designed to create an engaging experience for visitors by showcasing replicas of the 51 Shakti Peeth temples across the Indian subcontinent, symbolizing the rich cultural and spiritual traditions linked to Shakti (Devi) worship in Hinduism,” the official explained.

He further mentioned that the park will include various amenities to enhance visitor experience, such as a food court with ample seating, a souvenir shop, drinking water facilities, well-constructed roads with parking, public restrooms, guest accommodations, landscaped gardens, mythology-themed museums, and a variety of entertainment options.
