Agartala, Sep 15 (NationPress) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the renovated Tripura Sundari temple, a revered site among the 51 Shakti Peethas in Hindu worship, located in Udaipur, southern Tripura, on September 22, as announced by Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday.
The Chief Minister noted that the Prime Minister will arrive in Agartala on the afternoon of September 22 and then proceed to Udaipur, situated 65 km south of Agartala, for the inauguration of the renovated Tripura Sundari temple.
“Following the inauguration of the revamped temple and its enhanced surroundings, Modi will perform puja at the Kali temple. After the inauguration and the religious rituals, he will head back to Agartala before departing for Delhi. Currently, there are no plans for a public address by the Prime Minister,” Saha informed the media.
He added, “I had previously extended an invitation to the Prime Minister for the inauguration of the revamped temple.”
“Recent visits to Udaipur by senior officials, including Director General of Police Anurag, were conducted to ensure all arrangements for the Prime Minister’s visit are in place. Last week, Chief Minister Manik Saha, along with other ministers, also inspected Udaipur to confirm the preparations for PM Modi’s visit and the temple inauguration,” an unnamed official relayed to IANS.
According to an official from the Tourism Department, the 524-year-old Tripura Sundari temple has undergone redevelopment under the PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) initiative, funded by the Union Ministry of Tourism, with a total expenditure exceeding Rs 52 crore.
The Tripura government contributed an additional Rs 7 crore to this project.
Located in the Gomati district of southern Tripura, the Tripura Sundari temple is an iconic site and a representation of the state’s rich cultural heritage. The Prime Minister’s inauguration of the revamped temple underscores its significance, as per the official.
Built in 1501 by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya, the temple is not only one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in the nation but also the third temple of its kind in eastern India, following the Kali temple in Kolkata’s Kalighat and the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati.
After 517 years under various kings, the princely state of Tripura came under Indian governance on October 15, 1949, following a merger agreement signed by Kanchan Prabha Devi, the regent Maharani, and the Indian Governor General.
In parallel, a project to construct replicas of all 51 Shakti Peethas is underway at a site known as the 51-Shakti Peethas Park in Banduar, Gomati district, with an investment of Rs 97.70 crore. This park is located just four kilometers from the Tripura Sundari temple. The Chief Minister laid the foundation stone and participated in the Bhumi Pujan for the park on July 13.
An official from the Tourism Department mentioned that the proposed park site at Banduar is a serene village enveloped by lush greenery, providing a tranquil atmosphere.
This park, dubbed the 51 Shakti Peethas Park, is envisioned as a remarkable religious tourism project in Banduar village. Its goal is to offer visitors an immersive experience by showcasing replicas of the 51 Shakti Peeth temples from across the Indian subcontinent, representing the rich cultural and spiritual heritage linked to Shakti (Devi) worship in Hinduism.
Facilities at the park will include a food court with ample seating, a souvenir shop, drinking water stations, well-constructed roads with parking, public conveniences, guest accommodations, landscaped gardens, mythology-themed museums, and various entertainment options.
