Agartala, Sep 22 (NationPress) In a much-anticipated event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the renovated Mata Tripura Sundari temple, one of India's 51 Shakti Peethas revered by Hindus, located in southern Tripura's Udaipur on Monday, as confirmed by officials.
Following a virtual ceremony where he laid the foundation for 13 development projects exceeding Rs 5,127 crore in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, the Prime Minister will arrive in Agartala on Monday afternoon.
From Agartala, he will travel by helicopter to Udaipur in the Gomati district to formally unveil the redeveloped Mata Tripura Sundari temple, situated 65 km south of Agartala.
A police spokesperson mentioned that a 12-kilometre roadshow is scheduled from the Palatana helipad to the temple, with comprehensive security measures in place.
After the temple's inauguration and the enhancement of its surroundings, PM Modi will perform puja at the nearby Kali temple. Following this, he will return to Agartala before departing for Delhi. “As per the current schedule, the Prime Minister will not deliver a public address,” the official noted.
This visit marks PM Modi's 11th trip to the state and his second visit to the Tripura Sundari temple since assuming office in 2014. He previously visited and offered puja at the temple on April 7, 2019, and his latest trip to Tripura occurred on April 17, 2024, linked to the Lok Sabha elections.
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, who has visited Udaipur and the temple twice in recent weeks to oversee preparations for the Prime Minister’s visit, extended an invitation to PM Modi for the inauguration of the redeveloped temple.
In a post on his official X account, CM Saha expressed: “The enchanting nighttime supernatural view of the new infrastructure of Mother's Abode, built under the Prasad Project! The mesmerizing complex, blessed by Mother's grace, reflects the deep reverence and gratitude of the current government towards Mother. The entire population of Tripura eagerly awaits the grand inauguration by our esteemed Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi Ji on September 22nd.”
The Chief Minister shared a video showcasing the renovated Tripura Sundari temple and its enhanced surroundings. A senior Tourism Department official indicated that the temple, which has stood for 524 years, has been redeveloped at a cost exceeding Rs 52 crore as part of the PRASHAD (Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Heritage Augmentation Drive) scheme initiated by the Union Ministry of Tourism, with the Tripura government contributing Rs 7 crore.
The Tripura Sundari temple, located in Gomati district, is a significant cultural landmark, symbolizing the rich heritage of the state.
The Prime Minister's inauguration of this redeveloped temple will underscore its importance, the official added.
Constructed in 1501 by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya, the temple is one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in India and ranks as the third such shrine in eastern India, following the Kali temple in Kolkata’s Kalighat and the Kamakhya temple in Guwahati.
On October 15, 1949, after a 517-year rule by numerous kings, the princely state of Tripura came under Indian government control following a merger agreement signed by then-regent Maharani Kanchan Prabha Devi and the Governor General.
